Glossary
Each person record in Kith and Kin Pro has field called "Dead" which contains either true (dead) or false (alive). Set this flag in a person data form to indicate that the person is dead. You can set or clear this flag irrespective of whether the person has any death or burial details. Kith and Kin Pro uses this flag to confirm that the person is dead; the existence of death/burial details is no longer used to indicate death.
If you have imported a GEDCOM file or have a database which does not have these flags set correctly you can use the Update death flags command to set the flag for every person in the database.
This function will go through every person record in the current database and set the "Dead" flag as appropriate based on the following.
The person will only be considered for updating if one of the following is true:
Update everybody is set.
Update only if currently alive is set and the person's death flag is false.
Update only if currently dead is set and the person's death flag is true.
If the person has death or burial details (date or place) then the flag will be set to true.
If the person has a birth or christening date but no death or burial details then the flag will be set to true only if the person's age today is more than the value which you enter in the years old today box. Otherwise the flag will be set to false.
If the person has a marriage or divorce date but no birth or christening date and no death or burial details then the flag will be set to true only if the person's first marriage or divorce date occurred earlier than the value which you enter in the years ago box. Otherwise the flag will be set to false.
If the person does not have any birth/christening dates, marriage/divorce dates or death/burial details at all, then the flag will be set to true only if you set the assume Dead option. If you select the assume Alive option the flag will be set to false. For these people you will probably have to check their flag settings manually in their data forms.
