Subject: Using a GEDCOM file to import data into Kith and Kin Pro.
If you already have your family tree data available in another program, you can use a GEDCOM file to transfer it to Kith and Kin Pro.
First you must export the GEDCOM file from the previous program. Consult the program's documentation for instructions on how to do this.
Kith and Kin Pro will always merge the imported GEDCOM file with the existing database, so make sure that the current database is blank unless you specifically want to merge the data into an existing database.
Click on "File" in the main menu and then "Import GEDCOM file". An "Open" dialog box appears to let you choose the GEDCOM file which you want to import. You may have to navigate through the folders to find the file.
When you have selected the GEDCOM file to import and clicked on the "OK" button, another form appears with options to control the way that the data is imported. You will see that the program has already read part of the GEDCOM file and displayed some information about it in "File header details". Most of these options can be left at their default values unless you have a very old or strange GEDCOM file. If you have problems importing the GEDCOM file see Importing a GEDCOM file for further details.
After importing the GEDCOM file the Tree Area will contain a reasonably well arranged family tree. If you can't see any family rectangles on the screen use Go to family to scroll the screen. You will probably want to re-arrange the family tree by dragging the family rectangles around. Selecting families by relationship is a useful aid for this task.
