Using the report control form

The report control form controls printing, print previewing, exporting PDF files and printing to text files for every report available in Kith and Kin Pro except printing notes directly and printing the results of searches.

Select the report type you require by clicking on one of the report tabs. The report options page which you have selected will come to the top of the stack. For details of options settings for each report, see below.

Some options are common to most reports. Some reports have a title which you can modify before the report is printed.

Most reports allow you to choose whether the report should include all records in the database, a selected record or a range of records which you supply in the "From" and "To" boxes. If the report works on family records then the "Selection" option refers to the family rectangles currently selected in the Tree Area.

The current printer settings and page settings are displayed at the top of the form. Click on the Setup button to change the printer settings such as paper source, and click on the Page button to change page settings, such as margins.

The fonts used for reports are defined in Preferences. You can go quickly to the fonts page of the Preferences form by clicking on the Fonts button.

Options:

Wrap text files

For printing to text files, you can select whether long lines of text will break automatically at a word end (at approx 80 characters long) or whether they should be left intact by setting this option.

Births private

Set this option to exclude birth/christening dates of people who are still alive, ie. their "Dead" flag is set to false.

Privacy level

Set the cutoff privacy level for notes and user-defined fields. Notes and fields with a privacy level above the one you set here will be ignored. For example, enter level 2 to include notes/fields with privacy levels 0, 1 and 2. A level 3 or 4 note or field would be excluded.

Odd, Even and Odd + even pages:

If you are printing your reports double-sided you can print all the odd pages first then flip the printed pages over, put them back in the printer and print all the even pages. For normal print on one side only choose "Odd + even".

Mirror settings:

This is for use with the Odd pages or Even pages settings. If you are printing double-sided you may want things like page numbers printed on the right on odd pages and on the left on even pages. Setting Mirror settings will swap the page footer settings in Page setup to the opposite side of the page when printing even pages. The left and right margins will also be swapped and the code headers for details reports.

Printing:

When you have set the options you require, click on the print button to print to the printer, the preview button to print to the screen, the PDF button to export a PDF file or the file button to print to a text file. The text file option is not available for graphic report types.

When the report has finished printing or you have closed the preview window, Kith and Kin Pro brings you back to the report control window. You can now print another report or click on the Close button to close the window.
